Best 5 types of Roller Bearing

Bearing is a necessary part of industrial purposes. The Roller Bearing is related to ball bearing. The roller bearing is related to rolling element bearing. It is like a ball bearing. If you want to know ball bearing then click here. If you want to know full details about bearing and its type then click here.

Today I discuss Roller Bearing in this article. Here I explain its types, and many more. Before discussing all first know what is the basics of particular bearing?

Roller Bearing:

It is a type of bearing in which load is carried out by positioning rolling elements inside the races. It is related to ball bearing. The Roller Bearing is related to rolling element bearing. It uses a roller instead of a ball to separate the inner and outer ring of the bearing. It has a higher load capacity than the ball bearing. These bearings have a high chance of failure in case of the absence of lubrication.

In other words, it is the counterpart of the ball bearing. The design and structure of Roller Bearing and Ball Bearing are quite similar. The aim of the bearing is to decrease rotational friction. When it carries the high axial load and radial load.

Structure of Roller Bearing:

The structure and design of this bearing are related to ball bearing. One outer ring and one inner ring is fitting in this bearing. Two cages are used in roller bearing. The cylindrical rollers are used in it. The cage kept them in right place. So many various ball bearings are available in Roller Bearings. In this bearing, cylindrical rollers are used. In the ball bearing steel ball element used.

Types of Roller Bearing:

Cylindrical Roller Bearing:

In this type of bearing cylindrical rollers are used. The cylindrical rollers are just bigger in length than diameter. Cylindrical rollers have high radial load capacity. The cylindrical rollers have faster speeds than other rolling elements.

There are many types of cylindrical bearings. Single row cylindrical Roller Bearings are largely popular. It makes for simpler mounting and dismounting. It can’t be able to support the radial load of applications. Multi-row cylindrical Roller Bearings give a bigger radial load capacity. It can send axial loads in one direction.

The cylindrical bearings have much clearance. Its lubrication alternatives are available depending on the manufacturer.

Spherical Roller Bearing:

The spherical bearings are manufactured to carry heavy loads. Spherical bearing can also handle the axial load and high speed. It has an inner ring, outer ring, cages, and spherical rollers. NTN and SKF companies manufacture this type of bearing.

Needle Roller Bearing:

The needle bearing is manufactured from long and thin cylindrical rollers. It has the shape of needles.  It has a high load-carrying capacity. It can operate at high speed. It has a slim design. It is suited where radial space is limited. These bearings are available with an inner ring or without an inner ring.

Tapper roller bearing:

Tapper bearings are of different sizes and structures. The outer ring is known as the cup. The inner ring of the bearing is called a cone. It is held because of this shape. It contains four main elements. The elements are cup, cone, rapper rollers, and cage. The cage holds those tapper rollers in right place. it is designed to take heavy combined radial and thrust loads.

Gear Bearing:

Roller Bearing

This bearing has an arrangement like elliptical gears. In this bearing smaller satellite gears are available. It fulfills its revolution around the center of bearing. It is highly efficient due to the depreciation of sliding friction. It is quite challenging to manufacture gear bearings.

Difference between Roller Bearing and Ball Bearing:

Roller Bearing:

  • It carries the heavy load
  • Cost is high
  • It is used for low-speed functions.

Ball Bearing:

  • It carries the light load.
  • The cost is low.
  • It is used for high-speed functions.

Application of Roller Bearing:

There are different types of Roller Bearings. As per bearing of application are different. It is different for its performance, speed, reliability, load capacity, and durability. The bearing is used in many devices. It is also used in several different industries. I explain some roller-bearing applications below.

Cylindrical bearing:

Cylindrical bearing is used in motors, pumps, fans, gear drives, and machine tools. It is also used for petroleum production, power generation, and power transmission.

Spherical  Bearing:

Spherical Bearing is used in gearbox, wind turbines, pumps, and fans. It is also used in continuous casting machines, material handling and construction equipment.

Needle bearing:

Needle-bearing use in pumps, air compressor,  gearbox, and two-stroke or four-stroke engines. Its most applications are from automobile components. It is also used for the automotive power transmission system.

Taper bearing:

Tapper bearing used in gearbox, motors, propeller shaft, and turbines. It is also used for mining equipment, robot combat, and axle system. These bearings are also used in agriculture applications.

Thrust bearing:

Thrust bearing used in modern car gearbox and radio antenna. It is also used for aerospace applications and automotive. The bearing is used in the main and tail rotor blade of helicopters.

Conclusion about Roller Bearing:

In this article, we know Roller Bearing is like as ball bearing. But some difference is here. I explain it in this article. Here I discuss Bearing types and some applications.
